After our service this morning we’re going to have a church picnic up in the manse garden. You’ll need to bring sandwiches and so on and maybe a picnic rug or some chairs. We’re going to leave the hall open for access to the toilets.
It would be great if you could come along. It should be a good opportunity for us to catch up with each other after not much fellowship in the past year. Once our service is over you can make your way up to the manse garden. You might want to drive up and park at the hall if you’re in the meetinghouse.
Our evening service is at 6.30pm tonight. It would be great if you could join us as we worship God again together.
Easing of Restrictions
Covid restrictions for church are easing from next Sunday on. Social distancing is coming down to 1 metre. However, face coverings are still required for services of worship. There will be more signage in our buildings to help us adapt to these changes.
The door duty rota for September through to December is now available below. It has also been posted in all vestibules in the meetinghouse.
|Month||Session Room Aisle||Broughshane End Aisle||Centre Aisle|
|September||Andy McCurdy||Gavin Pyper||Grahame Robinson|
|October||Des Alexander||Steven Currie||Stephen Davidson|
|November||Wilnor Reid||James Ballentine||Allister McCullough|
|December||Richard Kidd||James Currie||Andy Hamilton|
With the easing of restrictions next week, we are hoping to add some more musicians to Praise Group. We have been quite limited in terms of the numbers that we can use. We’re also going to add another hymn to our morning service bringing us up to four in total.
Praise Group are keen to recruit or re-recruit people at this stage as well. If you were involved with the Praise Group pre-Covid and would like to get involved again or if you’ve never been involved at all and would like to be, please speak to Stuart or Florence as soon as possible. In particular, we need some more singers and it would be appreciated if you would consider serving and being involved in that way.
I’m intending to run some communicant classes in the early autumn. If you are interested in becoming a communicant member here in Buckna then please let me know as soon as possible.
Meeting of Kirk Session
Kirk Session will meet on Thursday 2nd September at 8pm in Mobile 1.
Meeting of Congregational Committee
The Congregational Committee will meet on Thursday 9th September at 8pm in the church hall.
Vacancy in Glenwherry Presbyterian Church
As some of you are already aware, Glenwherry Presbyterian Church is soon to be vacant. I have been appointed as vacancy convenor of Glenwherry and will officially start that role towards the end of September. It will mean that I am in Glenwherry now and again. I would ask you to pray, though, for the congregation in Glenwherry and for the Presbytery vacancy commission.
Evening Services in September and Early October
From next Sunday evening we are going to have a series of special evening services. I’m delighted to say that Rev. Dr. Stafford Carson is going to be joining with us over four Sunday evenings. Stafford of course is well known to us here in Buckna. He convened the vacancy following the death of Rev. Tom Coming. He has also preached here in recent years.
He has now retired as the Principal of Union Theological College and has a bit more time on his hands. Stafford is coming to do three evenings on 2 Corinthians 5 and he’s also going to be speaking at our harvest evening service. We should be very excited that Stafford is coming to us. I’m very much looking forward to sitting under his preaching and teaching.
Let me really encourage you to make a point of coming out to these special evening services – especially if coming to the evening service isn’t something you’re in the habit of doing. Social distancing is coming down to 1 metre from next Sunday so there should be a bit more space. We would love you to join us as we worship together and also as Stafford speaks to us as well.
Normal Service Times
The final announcement this morning is that our service times will revert back to 12pm and 7pm from next Sunday.
