Buckna Presbyterian Church

Announcements, 25.10.20

Below are the announcements from our service this weekend.

Wednesday Prayer Gathering

We are meeting to pray this Wednesday evening at 8pm in the Church Hall. I would encourage you to join us as we pray for our church family and also our island and world at this time. Richard Kidd will be leading the prayer time this week.

Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Appeal

The Christmas Shoebox Appeal is still going ahead this year. The date for you to bring your shoeboxes to Buckna is Sunday 8th November. They’ll be put directly into cars here at the meetinghouse and the church hall. There is a £5 donation required to cover transportation and this can be paid by cheque or online. Please do not pay this by cash.

Let me really encourage you to fill a shoebox this year. Europe has been as badly affected by the pandemic as we have – if not worse – and it’s important that we continue to show love and kindness to others through this practical ministry. If you require more information, please contact Hilary Alexander.

PW Missionary Donations

As you’ll know, some PW ladies were in the car park on Monday night to receive mission box gifts. They’d like to say a sincere thank you to all the ladies for the excellent to the annual collection of gifts for seafarers. If you would still like to contribute to the mission fund you can do so up until Sunday 15th November. Simply place it in the offering boxes and clearly mark it PW. Alternatively, you can pass it on to a Committee Member.

Ongoing Eldership Election

Voting papers have been posted to all communicant members and should be returned using the stamped addressed envelope provided. The closing date for returning voting papers is Monday 9th November. Any voting papers received after this date will not be valid.

Harvest Offering Envelopes and United Appeal

Let me remind that harvest offering envelopes are to be returned during the month of October. We would appreciate if you could return those as soon as possible. Let me also say that as a congregation we have an annual United Appeal target of honour to meet. This year that total is just over £11,000.

We would very much appreciate it if you could bear that in mind and continue to support the work of our denomination at this time. It may seem strange to have such a high target of honour given the circumstances this year. It important we support our wider denomination, though, and I would encourage you to support our efforts in meeting our United Appeal target.

Holidays and Pastoral Cover

Stephen is on holiday from Monday 26th October to Monday 9th November. Rev. John Brogan (Glenarm and Carnalbanagh PC) is providing pastoral cover between Monday 26th October and Monday 2nd November. Stephen will be available in case of an emergency only between Monday 2nd and Monday 9th November.

Mr. Mark Rodgers will be leading worship next Sunday (1st November) and Rev. Dr. Martyn Cowan will be taking the service on Sunday 8th November.

Let me at this point thank you for your continued support – particularly since August. It has been a joy to be back in church and back to public worship. Thank you for your encouragement and prayers. I very much appreciate it. We should continue to pray that the Lord will be with our church family in these challenging times and we should thank Him for His goodness to us.

Join us on FaceBook

If you are a facebook user, then we would invite to to join with us there. Over the coming weeks and months it is our intention to use facebook to provide useful information, highlight upcoming online events and share items of praise that can be used in conjunction with our online services.

We feel this is a great way for our Church to remain active in these uncertain times and to let the wider world have a little glimpse of our life in the Braid.
