Buckna Presbyterian Church

Announcements, 22.11.20

Below are the announcements from our service today.

Midweek Prayer Gathering

Our midweek prayer gathering is going ahead on Wednesday evening. We’ll be meeting in the church hall at 8pm. I’ll share a midweek meditation at that and it’ll also be available online afterwards.

Meeting of Congregational Committee

The Congregational Committee meeting that was planned for this Thursday (26th November) is still going ahead. Committee will meet in the hall at 8pm. We will of course be following social distancing regulations at that meeting.

Closure of Churches

The NI Executive has included the closure of churches in new restrictions which come into force this week. This means that we will not be able to gather for public worship next Sunday (29th November) and the following Sunday (6th December).

Instead of gathering in person, we will gather online. On both of the Sundays that we are closed we will livestream a service on YouTube. I will be here in the building and you will be able to watch live from home. These services will be very similar to the online services that we produced from March to August.

As well as that, during the two weeks of lockdown we won’t be able to gather to pray on Wednesday evenings. We’re going to do that on Zoom instead and I’ll have more details about that closer to the time. I do realise that many of us have online fatigue in that we’re tired of watching services and sitting on Zoom calls and that the novelty has worn off. But given that this lockdown is only for two weeks let me encourage you to engage with our online content and resources.

Sunday Evening Livestream (29th November)

Prior to the announcement on Thursday evening we were planning to run a special evening livestream service next Sunday (29th November). That will still go ahead but will be adapted. In that service we’re going to hear from a member of our church family about mental health and how we should think about that issue from a Christian perspective. I’m also going to give a talk on why we can trust the Bible.

The evening livestream will run from 8pm and will last for around 45 minutes. I’ll post more details about it into the church family WhatsApp group and also on our Facebook page. I will keep you as well informed as possible over the next couple of weeks.

PW Mission Box Donations

On a different note and for your encouragement, I’d like to say a huge thank you to the ladies of PW for their mission box contributions. £1567 was received which is up almost £300 from last year. I know those who organised the mission box donations are very thankful and greatly encouraged by this rise, especially given the circumstances we find ourselves in. Your kindness and generosity is greatly appreciated.

Giving in 2021

As you will know we are fast approaching the end of 2020. If you are interested in receiving envelopes or standing order forms to enable you to give in 2021, please contact our treasurer Billy Smyth. Also, if there have been any changes to your personal details – your address, your telephone number, please also contact Billy. His mobile number is 07751 793902.

Meeting of Kirk Session

Kirk Session will meet briefly in Mobile 1 following today’s service.

Join us on FaceBook

If you are a facebook user, then we would invite to to join with us there. Over the coming weeks and months it is our intention to use facebook to provide useful information, highlight upcoming online events and share items of praise that can be used in conjunction with our online services.

We feel this is a great way for our Church to remain active in these uncertain times and to let the wider world have a little glimpse of our life in the Braid.
