Evening Service

Our evening service tonight is at 7pm. This evening we’re starting a series of special services at which Rev. Dr. Stafford Carson will be speaking. I know that many of us are looking forward to having Stafford come to Buckna again. Let me encourage you, despite the restrictions, to join us this evening and support these special services.

Covid Restrictions

In terms of Covid restrictions, social distancing is now down to 1 metre for churches. That means we are using every other pew in the meetinghouse. There is some signage at the ends of pews to help with that now. In the hall it means leaving a two seat gap – previously it was a four seat gap.

Face coverings are still mandatory before, during and after services of worship. There is a change coming, however, with face coverings. Ministers were informed by PCI on Friday that from Wednesday 15th September onwards once you are socially distanced in a pew or seat face coverings may be removed during a service of worship apart from when singing.

When we’re singing we have to wear them and when we’re entering, leaving and moving around our buildings we have to wear them but when we’re sitting socially distanced face coverings can be removed.

That change will come into effect in two Sundays time – Sunday 19th September. Until then, face coverings are mandatory before, during and after services.

We all want to be totally free from face coverings. That day is hopefully coming but the relaxation in two weeks time should be a great help to us. It should make sitting through a service more comfortable.

Resumption of Organisations

Kirk Session met on Thursday evening to discuss the resumption of organisations and church activities. I’m pleased to say we’re going to take some steps towards resuming organisations in the near future. I will have more information about that in the coming weeks. I’m planning a meeting of all organisational heads soon and there should be more information after that.

Door Duty Rota

The door duty rota for September through to December is now available below. It has also been posted in all vestibules in the meetinghouse.

Praise Group

Praise Group are on a recruitment drive at the moment. If you’re interested in serving through Praise Group please speak to Stuart of Florence as soon as possible.

Communicant Classes

I’m intending to run some communicant classes very soon. Today or early this week is really your last opportunity to let me know if you’d like to be part of those.

I should say that we are planning for a communion sometime in the autumn despite restrictions. We haven’t had communion in Buckna since January 2020 and Session feel that it is important that we meet around the Lord’s Table in the near future. Please get in touch with me if you’re interested in becoming a communicant member in our church family.

Meeting of Congregational Committee

The Congregational Committee will meet on Thursday 9th September at 8pm in the church hall. This will be an important meeting at which we will be discussing our building project. A good attendance is encouraged.

Vibe Climbing Slemish

Vibe are planning to climb Slemish this Saturday coming. They’re going to meet at Slemish Car Park. Once everyone is back down the mountain there is going to be a BBQ in the car park. Parents are asked to leave young people to the car park for 4.30pm and collect them at 7.30pm.

An online consent form will be posted into the Parent’s WhatsApp group as well and that needs to be completed by Thursday at the latest for catering purposes. Everyone in Year 8 and above is welcome – we’d love you to come along if you’ve never been to Vibe before.

The climb of Slemish is weather-dependant so if the weather is bad on Saturday, the event will just be cancelled.

Join us on FaceBook

If you are a facebook user, then we would invite to to join with us there. Over the coming weeks and months it is our intention to use facebook to provide useful information, highlight upcoming online events and share items of praise that can be used in conjunction with our online services.

We feel this is a great way for our Church to remain active in these uncertain times and to let the wider world have a little glimpse of our life in the Braid.
